Back on MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2010 I wrote my one and only Blog entry. I have transfered it to the new and improved mkmdesigner.com because in my meantime @DRUNKHULK has EXPLODE! He now has a Facebook page (facebook.com/DRUNKHULK) and has had many more people write about him (The 7 Funniest Non-Human Twitter Users Right Now / A Superhero’s Guide to Social Media) I also just wanted to brag about my forsight about @DRUNKHULK being a cultural phenominom.
Building a brand on Twitter is limited. The assets you have at your disposal are the user name, profile description, the background image, and the avatar. All very brief glimpses at your full brand identity. You can use your voice in 140 characters to get your message across.I discovered a page I thought was just funny and brought back childhood memories of a comic book hero. The page is@DRUNKHULK. I thought it was just a lark that someone took The Hulk and added adult beverages and created a persona that doled out his view of the world. A week went by and I realized something. He had taken the limitation and created a recognizable brand.I have seen the lists of 14 Types of Twitter Personalities, 13 Types Of Tweeters and The 10 persona’s I see on Twitter, which has included:
- The Guru
- The personal brand
- The entrepreneur
- The real famous person
- The unreal famous person
- The news feed
- The brand
- The normal people
- The Purist
- The Journalist
- The Retweeter
- The Tastemaker
- The Spammer
- The Stalker
- The Self-Promoter
- The Clueless
I have not seen everything on Twitter but I think this is the most unique type of persona/personality on Twitter from a total branding aspect. I liken it to persona’s like Andy Kaufman’s Foreign Man/Tony Clifton, Father Guido Sarducci, Pee Wee Herman, Super Dave Osbourne and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G/Borat. These are all great persona’s… and well branded.
I have not talked about the limitations of the font. You cannot use your brands fonts on Twitter. Here is the real genius part; taking the fact that giant beast would talk loud, he uses ALL CAPS. Add some broken English because English is second language to all giant beast. He has made it a branding style. Even if you take away the user name, profile description, the background image, and the avatar you can pick @DRUNKHULK out of a Twitter post line-up because of these attributes.
(Pardon the interruption: You can read and interview given by DRUNK HULK here on “The Secret Little Portobello Mushroom“ blog.)
There might not be any of those other things that the marketing gurus are looking for in establishing a brand but@DRUNKHULK has taken the limitation of Twitter and created a successful brand. A Twitter account that doesn’t sell anything or get you business contacts or links to the cool stuff might not be given any consideration but with over 11,000 followers (73,146 02/22/11)… it might be successful at branding.I can’t remember where I got this link from, one of those good sources of Twitter information (@Alyssa_Milano I think), Tweet Level (tweetlevel.edelman.com) measures an individuals importance on Twitter. I suggest you go there and see your own level compared to others. I may surprise you.
@DRUNKHULK TweetLevel:
Influence – 60.2 (68.2 updated 02/22/11)
Popularity – 60.5 (71.2 updated 02/22/11)
Engagement – 42.4 (37.5 updated 02/22/11)
Trust – 72.7 (66 updated 02/22/11)
PEOPLE TRUST @DRUNKHULK!!! WHAT???
The Edelman Trust Barometer states that 77% of people refused to buy products or services from a company they distrusted. It is trust that makes someone act – for this reason alone, having a high trust score is considered by many to be more important than any other category.Trust can be measured by the number of times someone is happy to associate what you have said through them – in other words, how often you are retweeted. To increase your trust score you will need to create more interesting and informative posts that will give your followers a reason to retweet what you have said.I am a total right brained person so the math going into figuring the scores is beyond me. But, it does say something about what this fictional persona is doing on Twitter when people are this engaged.
ME WANT BE LIKE DRUNK HULK!!!
